Palm Oil in Foods – A Changing Paradigm for Saturated Fats
Press Release -- Rosemont, IL -- November 13, 2008 – Gerald McNeill, PhD, technical director at Loders Croklaan presented at the Chicago Section IFT Suppliers’ Night 2008 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL on Wednesday, November 12, 2008.His presentation, titled “Palm Oil in Foods – A Changing Paradigm for Saturated Fats,” focused on palm oil and its gaining acceptance as a highly function, cost-effective ingredient in many food products. Additionally, McNeill provided an overview of scientific data which suggests that saturates are not as bad as once believed. His lecture showed how palm oil is the most versatile zero-trans edible oil available to the food industry today and why it has a role to play as part of a healthy diet.
