More Than 8 Million Tons of Grain Has Been Threshed in Ukraine

Targeted News Service -- KIEV, UKRAINE -- July 11, 2012 -- As for today domestic farmers have collected more than 8 million tons of grain from an area of 4 million hectares. Altogether, according to the specified data of regions 10.5 million hectares of early grain and leguminous crops, and canola will be collected. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk at a briefing at the Government House.

"For over two days capacity of grind daily reaches 1 million tons of grain. Now it is threshed 2.2 million tones of barley from an area of 1.3 million hectares, 5.5 million tons of grain harvested from an area of 2.5 million hectares. Therefore, we understand that our forecast for the harvest at 45-47 million tonnes - a real one. And we see no threat to food security and does not assume control of exports of cereals", - Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said.

It also continues gathering rye, peas, winter oilseed rape and oats. In addition, the procurement of fodder for needs of the animal feed industry is ongoing.

Early grain harvest is expected to 20-21 million tons. Under favorable weather conditions, harvest of late crops, particularly maize, is expected to 23 million tons.
