California Restaurant Chain Farmer Boys(R) Partners with Cargill to Upgrade Frying Oil, Cut Trans Fats

RIVERSIDE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 19, 2007--Farmer Boys Restaurants has announced that it will be transitioning its restaurants to a zero trans-fat per serving frying oil over the next few months. Made fresh from scratch items, such as Farmer Boys famous hand cut and hand battered onion rings and zucchini, will now be prepared in the new zero trans-fat per serving oil. These signature, fresh from the field, Farmer Boys menu items will now be even healthier when prepared in the new oil.

Farmer Boys has partnered with Cargill as its supplier of cooking oils to switch to a zero trans fat per serving 1 line of cooking oils.

Farmer Boys has extensively tested the new frying oil with thousands of guests. Farmer Boys went to this extra effort to insure their fried menu items meet the needs of today’ s discriminating diner who requires healthier menu choices with great flavor. Farmer Boys expects to roll out the new frying oil to all locations by the beginning of 2008.

“We are very excited by the response our guests have given us during the testing process,” said Ken Clark, President of Farmer Boys. “Our testing procedures, in a variety of locations, showed that our guests felt items fried in the new oil tasted the same or better than before. The new oil will allow us to serve the flavor and quality our guests have come to expect in a healthier manner."
